Wow. I wasn't sure what people were going to make of this, so I really appreciate your really thoughtful feedback, and so soon after I posted it, too. I was really a little nervous. I don't usually write this dark.

A "miserable flood of emotions" is a good way to describe these two. I was intrigued by the idea that even though they came from opposing sides vis a vis the trauma of The Circle, they would both nevertheless be driven to punish themselves in this highly uncomfortable, symbolic re-enactment of the moment that binds them. Yes, I think it's fair to say that they both felt debased and unresolved in the end.
I'm glad you liked the links between the present and Felix's past with Gaius on New Caprica. I kept having doubts that I was just putting them in because I felt like it. But in the end, I decided that so much of Felix's guilt about New Caprica is about him feeling like a blind fool who waited far too long to act on his people's behalf, and *that* is all about Gaius, for sure.
